![]() And don’t forget to stay classy, San Diego. (All apologies, Dewey Cox.) Given the high possibility of sidesplitting, you may wanna have a medical professional on hand. Culling this down was a tough call humor is a seriously subjective topic, and every one of our 19 writers weighing in had their own idea of what constitutes “hilarious.” But this list represents the best cross section of screen comedy of our millennium, a collection that runs the gamut from droll to bladder-loosening.Īnd, since we’d originally published this list in early 2018, we’ve updated it and added 20 new entries - including several first-rate comedies that were regrettably left off the list. Or a dozen.Īfter a number of heated arguments and lots of name-calling and the occasional chaotic pie fight, we’ve narrowed down our choices for the greatest comedies of the 21st century. But they’ve all consistently cracked us up, in a two-decade-plus span in which - let’s be honest - we’ve need a laugh or two. Some of these movies have been gently witty, while others have displayed all of the subtlety of a dose of Sex Panther cologne. Since the turn of the century, we’ve giggled at the poignant and the perverse, rom-coms and raunch-coms, new-and-improved takes on singular comic types and loose, highly improvised ensemble pieces that spread the spotlight around. German father-daughter duos and goofy stoners? Bring ’em on! Headbanging teachers and backstabbing bureaucrats? Yes, we’ll take them too. Talking foxes, Huey Lewis-loving serial killers, world-saving marionettes, foulmouthed political fixers and boisterous bridesmaids - all great as well. It is typically used when there is an awkward transition in sounds (archaic word Arjenibrúk'ta, replaced by Arjenibrukem). An apostrophe (') usually indicates a slightly more pronounced break between syllables. A written acute accent mark indicates that the stress instead falls on the syllable over which it is written (jevar é). Unless otherwise specified, the stress of any polysyllabic word falls on the penultimate syllable (qi dade, kon sike). Rushed writing styles common to Noterelenda speakers eventually resulted in the morphing of this letter into a g-like entity, and eventually the stroke was reversed in direction to help in differentiation, producing today's modern letter q. The extra letter h was later dropped and the /tʃ/ sound was represented by a cedilla added under the c (ç). Originally, the /tʃ/ sound was represented by the letter combination "ch". The letter q has not always existed in its present form. Modifiers are usually placed after nouns. It draws influences from the other three Bedistani languages ( English, Spanish, and a very small amount of classical Greek).ĭue to Noterelenda's case system, there is no specific required sentence structure, though most sentences use a simple subject-verb-object (SVO) form, like English. Noterelenda is a constructed language developed in Bedistan, and is one of the five official languages of the Unified Capitalizt States, though it is more widely spoken in the former West Bedistan and Pedriana. ![]() Jey, or one of our sysops: Frisbeeteria.Need help? ![]() ![]() Moreover, the mass of an electron is negligibly small with respect to the mass of a typical atom. Even though a sodium cation has a slightly smaller mass than a sodium atom (since it is missing an electron), this difference will be offset by the fact that a chloride anion is slightly more massive than a chloride atom (due to the extra electron). This approach is perfectly acceptable when computing the formula mass of an ionic compound. Note that the average masses of neutral sodium and chlorine atoms were used in this computation, rather than the masses for sodium cations and chlorine anions. Figure 3.2 outlines the calculations used to derive the molecular mass of chloroform, which is 119.37 amu.įigure 3.4 Table salt, NaCl, contains an array of sodium and chloride ions combined in a 1:1 ratio. The average molecular mass of a chloroform molecule is therefore equal to the sum of the average atomic masses of these atoms. The molecular formula of chloroform indicates that a single molecule contains one carbon atom, one hydrogen atom, and three chlorine atoms. Consider chloroform (CHCl 3), a covalent compound once used as a surgical anesthetic and now primarily used in the production of tetrafluoroethylene, the building block for the "anti-stick" polymer, Teflon. Formula Mass for Covalent Substancesįor covalent substances, the formula represents the numbers and types of atoms composing a single molecule of the substance therefore, the formula mass may be correctly referred to as a molecular mass. These ideas can be extended to calculate the formula mass of a substance by summing the average atomic masses of all the atoms represented in the substance’s formula. Formula MassĪn earlier chapter of this text described the development of the atomic mass unit, the concept of average atomic masses, and the use of chemical formulas to represent the elemental makeup of substances. Understanding the relationship between the masses of atoms and the chemical formulas of compounds allows us to quantitatively describe the composition of substances. For example, Dalton’s atomic theory was an attempt to explain the results of measurements that allowed him to calculate the relative masses of elements combined in various compounds. Many argue that modern chemical science began when scientists started exploring the quantitative as well as the qualitative aspects of chemistry. ![]()
![]() His belief that his empire would live long is ridiculed by the fact the remains of his statue are all that is left. Yet, all that is left of these delusions of grandeur are legs stuck in the sand and a shattered, sunken head. ![]() The “ heart” represents the heart of the king, symbolizing a king who fed upon the fear of his subjects, whose terrible heart supported his arrogance and ego. It is his hand that shaped the features of the statue, and Ozymandias’ domineering nature was put on show, so the statue was more of a mockery than veneration. A tyrant, he built a statue of himself to force the population to exalt his presence, whilst he should have focused his efforts on elevating the people and their standard of living. He did not have generous, giving hands, but instead had vengeful, selfish hands. The king mocked his people and cared less about them than his own image. The “ hand” represents both the king and the sculptor. In “ The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed ”, synecdoche is used to represent the relationship between the sculptor and the king, and by extension, the king and his subjects. Ozymandias used his power to boost his ego, but all that is left is a broken statue with scattered parts. Power should be used for the welfare of the populace, not for the glorification of self. The legacy of the man was no longer his work or his action, but the emotion that he filled the people around him with. ![]() All that they gleaned from the statue was that he was cold and dominating. This statue was meant to make sure that he is never forgotten, but neither the poet nor the traveler knew who he was. The sneer, frown, and curled lip show that the king was cruel, and this characteristic of him is what lives on after his death. The sculptor could properly read the soul of the man, and this was perfectly captured in the sculpture. The expression on the face betrayed cruelty and superiority, and it’s clear that this was the true personality of the person who was memorialized. The statue had been destroyed by sand and time and was left sunken and alone in the sand. The traveler saw the remains of a large statue, with two large legs still standing tall, but the broken face lying nearby. The traveler brings back memories of relics left behind that may still be of some value in the present day. He walked through an area that tells stories of a bygone era and calling this place an “ antique land” already shows us that the poem’s subject is set in the past. The speaker narrates a conversation he had with a traveler from a faraway land. The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things, ![]() Tell that its sculptor well those passions read Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,Īnd wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command, Shelley illuminates the transience of Ozymandias' power he had not achieved the legacy he believed he would and instead his works have been reduced to ' Nothing' a pronoun that highlights how forgotten Ozymandias' works have become.Shelley also shows the power of nature over man with cyclical natural imagery, the poem begins in an ' antique land' and 'desert' and ends with the alliterative line 'the lone and level sands stretch far away', Shelley, a romantic poet, highlights how fragile human power is as it can easily be ' shattered' both by the power of time and nature.Who said-“Two vast and trunkless legs of stone This is further highlighted by the semantic field of destruction, 'shattered visage, lifelesss, colossal Wreck" (The capitalisation of the word Wreck works as a transferred epithet -> Ozymandias' identity has gone from being regal to being a wreck).Shelley also uses juxtaposition in the lines "Look on my Works, ye Mighty and despair!/ Nothing beside remains. ' King of kings' also alludes to divine power as Ozymandias believed himself to be as or more omnipotent than God.Shelley then uses the technique of irony to highlight how Ozymandias' power has diminished over time reducing him to "trunkless legs of stone". Shelley makes usage of cacophonous alliteration to present the power Ozymandias once had, 'cold command' and 'King of Kings', these suggest Ozymandias was a stern and authoritative ruler. Then we pick out any literary devices Shelley has used that link to power. How does this link to power? Shelley does not use the traditional sonnet form, this could reflect how Ozymandias' power has not survived in a traditional generational sense, the usage of a regular rhyme scheme also highlights how time has passed. Shelley uses a 14 line sonnet in iambic pentameter and a regular rhyme scheme. Firstly we want to highlight any interesting structural devices in the poem and link them to power. A separate application, such as MusicBrainz Picard, must be used for this. Fingerprinting īesides collecting metadata about music, MusicBrainz also allows looking up recordings by their acoustic fingerprint. As of August 2022, over 3.7 million images exist in the archive. Until May 16, 2022, cover art was also provided for items on sale at and some other online resources, but CAA is now preferred, because it gives the community more control and flexibility for managing the images. As with other contributions, the MusicBrainz community is in charge of maintaining and reviewing the data. Internet Archive provides the bandwidth, storage and legal protection for hosting the images, while MusicBrainz stores metadata and provides public access through the Web and via an API for third parties to use. MusicBrainz allows contributors to upload cover art images of releases to the database these images are hosted by Cover Art Archive (CAA), a joint project between Internet Archive and MusicBrainz started in 2012. End-users can use software that communicates with MusicBrainz to add metadata tags to their digital media files, such as ALAC, FLAC, MP3, Ogg Vorbis or AAC. As of February 2023, MusicBrainz contains information on roughly 2.1 million artists, 3.5 million releases, and 28.8 million recordings. Recorded works can also store information about the release date and country, the CD ID, cover art, acoustic fingerprint, free-form annotation text and other metadata. These entries are maintained by volunteer editors who follow community written style guidelines. Recorded works entries capture at a minimum the album title, track titles, and the length of each track. MusicBrainz captures information about artists, their recorded works, and the relationships between them. MusicBrainz has expanded its goals to reach beyond a CD metadata (this is information about the performers, artists, songwriters, etc.) storehouse to become a structured online database for music. MusicBrainz was founded in response to the restrictions placed on the Compact Disc Database (CDDB), a database for software applications to look up audio CD information on the Internet. MusicBrainz is a MetaBrainz project that aims to create a collaborative music database that is similar to the freedb project. The Baader filter appears to be very well made indeed, nice solid build & mark free across the faces of the filter, not much else to say about it other than it weighs approx. I know it will suffer in the correction department but for visual use it should be awesome, AP wise I am looking forward to trying mono Ha images of a lot of targets, the main use will be for Solar which I am hoping should produce some amazing images. My ED120 (shown next to the 150mm) is just so easy to mount and carry about and performs pretty much as well and shows practically no CA visually. It still showed a fair amount of CA around brighter targets and was also very challenging to mount adequately. I will take this opportunity to thank Rupert for his patience towards my impatience, I had at one point expressed a concern over the fact that the scope didn't come with a hard case, this was an error but Rupert has indeed supplied a hard case that it can be stored in when not in use.
